Are these tiles safe to use in a wet area, such as a bathroom?
These tiles work fine in areas that experience intermittent humidity, such as a bathroom. They are not intended for underwater immersion. Kiln fired glazes would be the best bet, there.
+
Do you paint directly on the tiles?
I use tiles as a substrate for a variety of art media: acrylic paint, enamel paint, paper, wax paper, photos, etc... Sometimes I paint directly on the tiles, too! I glaze with several coatings, and finish with a heat resistant glaze, so that the tile may be gently used as a trivet.
+
Are the tiles sturdy and durable?
YES- they are sturdy and durable, and not fragile. They are decorative items, however, and not indestructible. Ceramic tiles will chip or break if dropped on a hard surface. The art is well protected by water-impermeable and heat resistant finishes. However, I recommend cleaning the tiles with just a plain, water-dampened paper towel, and using general common sense in their care. Over time, with much exposure to moisture, heat or cold, the finish may crack.
I expect my tiles to last for several years with gentle usage. If simply displayed, for many years.
Safety notes: These tiles are for decorative use on wall or furniture-top, and are never appropriate for floor use.
They are also not for direct food use (use as a trivet is fine).

Can these tiles be used to display food, for ex., crackers and cheeses?
No. These tiles are not kiln-fired, and thus may not be used for direct food use. They may be used indirectly, as a trivet, for example, because the paints and glazes used are "non-toxic". They are completely safe to handle, and wipe clean easily, with a moist paper towel. Common sense dictates not to place them in situations where young children or pets would chew on them. Additionally, common sense safety around children dictates that tiles with longer ribbons attached should be kept on the wall, completely beyond reach of baby or small child.

Do you paint murals that can be used on a wall?
Yes. I am happy to discuss any commission ideas you may have, and to apply discounts for large or corporate orders (for example, to enhance weddings or business events.)
I do paint murals based on these designs or others you may have. Please e-mail me (Ellen) at st.judesquareartworks@gmail.com and we can discuss design and price.
